The Simplest Skin Care Routine for Combination Skin

0

Growing up, some of us have normal, dry, or oily skin. Each comes with their own set of challenges that we figure out how to overcome as the years go by. But what if, like the majority of people out there, you have an oily T-zone (nose, eyebrows, chin) with dry skin around the outer parts of the face? There’s no need to get overwhelmed; this is the kind of skin most people have. Combination skin is a bit trickier than either oily or normal skin. But once you’re sure that’s your skin type, all you need to do is develop a skincare routine that works for you.

Luckily, we’ve got a simple routine to help your combination skin thrive and glow. Keep things simple and easy to complete with these five steps.

  1. Cleanse well – Forget about washing your face with just any generic bar soap and water. That’s a terrible idea! When you have combination skin, what you need is a gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip the dry areas on your face of essential oils yet cleans thoroughly. This will leave your skin feeling refreshed and plump rather than sapped and stretched.
  2. Try a peel – Regularly use a gentle, yet effective chemical peel (usually glycolic acid-based) to resurface dull skin. This will also help your skin absorb things like your moisturizer, serum, and sunscreen better.
  3. Sunscreen essentials – Always remember to use sunscreen. This is an oldie but a goodie, and while several products already contain sunscreen, find a lightweight, water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30 or higher. More importantly, remember to reapply through the day.
  4. Remember to moisturize – One of the trickiest parts of combination skin, combination skin, needs one that’s medium-weight and hydrates without going overboard. A good quality gel-cream formulated with hyaluronic acid might be just the thing you need. This kind of non-greasy moisturizer instantly allows you to see and feel a difference in your skin.
  5. Make blotting sheets your best travel buddy. With combination skin, the vital thing to remember is that care continues as you step out of the house. The simplest thing you can do when you find your T-zone starting to look shiny is to grab a blotter sheet and dab away the excess grease.
